kcalIngredients
2 slices of good black bread
1 lb lean ground pork (I recommend grinding your own lean pork)
1 small/medium onion, finely chopped
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 tsp Mrs. Dash seasoning
3/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp mayo
1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
Oil for sautéing (I used extra light olive oil)
Directions
- Prepare the Bread Crumbs: Preheat your oven to 350˚F (175˚C). Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet and dry them in the oven for approximately 25 minutes, until completely dried, or alternatively, you can place the slices in the sun to dry out. Once the bread is fully dried, soak it in water for 10 minutes. After soaking, squeeze out the excess water and allow the bread to drain completely. Use a bowl to help drain the bread in a colander. Once drained, break the bread into small crumbs.
- Make the Soufflé Mixture:
Sauté the Onions: Heat a medium pan over medium-high heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté them until they turn golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Once done, remove the onions from the pan and set aside.illa extract. Stir until smooth. - Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, soaked bread crumbs, sautéed onions, beaten egg, Mrs. Dash seasoning, salt, black pepper, and mayonnaise. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Shape the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs, slightly flattening each one. Roll the meatballs in the remaining bread crumbs for a crispy coating. Set the meatballs aside on a platter.
- Cook the Meatballs: Heat a large non-stick pan or cast-iron skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of oil. Once the oil is hot, carefully add half of the meatballs (about 10 at a time). Sauté for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Add more oil as needed during cooking.
- Drain and Serve: Once cooked, transfer the meatballs to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Ensure the bread is thoroughly dried before soaking, as it helps maintain the perfect texture for the meatballs.
- For extra flavor, try adding a sprinkle of garlic powder, paprika, or fresh herbs to the meatball mixture.
- If you prefer a healthier option, you can bake the meatballs instead of frying them by placing them on a greased baking sheet and baking at 350˚F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
