Ingredients

  • For the Bread:
  • 1/4 cup canola oil

  • 1/4 cup softened butter

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 eggs at room temperature

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or 1/2 cup milk + 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar)

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon molasses

  • For the Coating:
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a light-colored loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside.
  • Prepare the Batter:
In a large bowl, combine the canola oil, softened butter, and granulated sugar. Mix well until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, stirring until the mixture is smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, and salt) along with the buttermilk. Mix until the batter is uniform, scraping the sides of the bowl to ensure everything is incorporated.
  • Make the Cinnamon Swirl:
Transfer 1/2 cup of the batter into a smaller bowl. Add the cinnamon and molasses to this portion and stir until combined.
  • Layer the Batter:
Pour half of the plain batter into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan. Spoon half of the cinnamon batter in small dollops over the plain batter. Then, pour the remaining plain batter on top of the cinnamon dollops and drop the remaining cinnamon batter on top.
Use a butter knife to swirl the two batters together, creating a marbled effect.
  • Bake the Bread:
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Prepare the Coating:
While the bread is baking, prepare the cinnamon-sugar coating. Pour the melted butter into a large shallow dish. In another shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon.
  • Coat the Bread:
Allow the bread to cool for 10 minutes before loosening the edges and removing it from the pan. The loaf should be warm enough to handle but not too hot.
Dip each side of the loaf into the melted butter until fully coated. Then, transfer it to the cinnamon-sugar mixture and press the sugar into the bread, coating it thoroughly.
  • Serve:
Slice the loaf into pieces and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delicious cinnamon swirl donut bread!

Notes

  • Storage: Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Make it Gluten-Free: Substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free version.
  • Add-ins: Feel free to mix in some chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra texture and flavor.
